Player Release

The Athens Odyssey have released Ted Fishman - SS.

DT David Frank (ATH) goes #1 overall!

NEW YORK -- The Athens Odyssey drafted David Frank #1 overall in the 2023 draft. The 6' 2" DT fits the team's needs perfectly. Said Odyssey general manager: "It's up to us to develop him and get good players around him."

"The great thing about the game of football is, it's a team game," Frank said on a conference call. "I'm just going to be one piece of the puzzle."

Moore and Nox Mock Draft

Pick 1: Athens Odyssey
Larry Moore: Daniel Corcoran - QB
He is driven by the love of the sport. Can diagnose coverages well. Has accuracy to throw receivers open. Will not leave the ball floating in the air, can deliver it low and hard. He fills a hole at the position. Blue-chip player. Will fit right in and start right away. Love it.

Jim Nox: David Frank - DT
He is fundamentally a good kid. You rarely see him commit stupid penalties. He takes care of his teammates. Most everyone who ever played with him, counts him as their friend. Sufficiently strong to bull rush. Not the strongest, but strong enough to stay on his feet against inside runs. This young man is explosive enough to pressure Quarterbacks up the middle. He has above average closing speed. They will be running to the podium for this one.

Pick 2: Rome Gladiators
Larry Moore: Arnold Mcneil - SS
Need a leader? He is your guy. Teammates love him. All he cares about is the team. He helps everyone succeed. This is the kind of kid you want to promote the game. Well behaved, loves the game, and respectful. Consistently takes down ball carrier when he gets to him. Fans might not be on board with what can be framed as a need pick. But trust me once they see this kid play, they will be more than happy.

Jim Nox: Charles Ritchie - CB
Not a speedster per se, but enough to play man. He is faster than he is given credit for. They need players at the position, and good ones at that. He fits the bill, he is worth the pick. End of story.

Pick 3: Indianapolis
Larry Moore: Harry Majors - LB
Here you have a guy, who really benefits the atmosphere in the building. Everyone wants to be around him. He has sufficient strength to not get bulllied on run plays. Offenses will need to keep tabs on him. He will close down fairly quickly if left unblocked. Good understanding of the game, and what is required of each position. Nothing to think about here. Pick up the kid, bring him into the building, put him om the field.

Jim Nox: Harry Majors - LB
Liked by coaches and teammates. Would occasionally flatten offensive linemen in college. Even in the pros, opponents better not try to block him with a Tight End or Running Back. Closing speed good enough to get to the Quarterback often. Very coachable. That is an important trait for a guy you want to draft this early. Blue-chip player. Exactly what they look for. Add a young talent to a roster thin at the position, a great fit.

Pick 4: Hartford Harpoon
Larry Moore: David Frank - DT
Respected for his good behavior on the field. Here you have a guy, who really benefits the atmosphere in the building. Everyone wants to be around him. Strong enough to not get bullied by offensive linemen. Can collapse the pocket. Quick enough to get to the Quarterback, and they need more pressure inside. Are there other guys worth picking here? Sure, but none of them fit this well with what they need, and he is a solid talent.

Jim Nox: Ben Allen - DT
Need a leader? He is your guy. He brings decent strength to the position. Can collapse the pocket against weaker offensive linemen. Take the blue-chip player. Do not worry about sexier picks. He fits what you need and the quality is there.

Pick 5: Vienna Vanguard
Larry Moore: Lawrence Montoya - DE
His college coaches talk highly of his work ethic. This is the kind of kid you want to promote the game. Well behaved, loves the game, and respectful. This is a kid who really contributes to the team spirit and the social cohesiveness on the team. You will see him make a lot of tackles. Might not be what fans want, but there is a reason people are getting paid to make these decisions. This is a rock solid pick, and he fits what they are looking for. Fans will come around quickly once they see him play.

Jim Nox: Lawrence Montoya - DE
His college coaches talk highly of his work ethic. He is driven by the love of the sport. The guy has gets along with everyone. Tackles with nice fundamentals. People usually go down. He fills a need for them. They will be happy to get him.

Pick 6: Chicago Chickles
Larry Moore: Paul Tang - LB
Nice speed for a Defensive End. Enough to keep contain and get sacks. He fills a need for them. They will be happy to get him.

Jim Nox: Paul Tang - LB
Is fast enough to get sacks. Is fast enough to contain outside runs. Those are the players you look for at Defensive End. A player that fits their needs. The promise of a future star. This will be great for the franchise.

Pick 7: Perth Bushrangers
Larry Moore: Charles Ritchie - CB
Coaches are always looking to add more speed to the defensive backfield. This guy has enough to make an impact. People always say you should not prioritize needs over quality. That is not an issue here, they get to have their cake and eat it too.

Jim Nox: John Guinn - LB
Teams are looking for players who will not break contain. This young man is strong enough to stay on his feet against grown men on the offensive line. They would be crazy not to take him here. A great fit, both in terms of what they need and the quality of player they get. This will put a smile on many faces.

Pick 8: Detroit Demons
Larry Moore: Richard English - T
He will occasionally throw of defenders to the ground when blocking them. They would be crazy not to take him here. A great fit, both in terms of what they need and the quality of player they get. This will put a smile on many faces.

Jim Nox: Nicky Hamilton - T
Every team values leadership, someone to lead by example, this is the guy. He helps everyone get in the right position, making the team run as a well oiled machine. With the amount this youngster can already benchpres, he will only ever have to focus on improving technique. Fill a need, get a quality player, everyone wins! He will fit right in with the pros.

Pick 9: Athens Odyssey
Larry Moore: Robbie Ingram - G
Known for showing up early and staying late. He is driven by the love of the sport. Nice blocking skills on run plays. He will contribute to the running game. He can hold his own in the passing game. Will improve once he finetunes his technique, but he is already pretty good. His college teammates all point to how smart he is. They will be happy to get him, they could use an upgrade at the position, and he certainly fits the bill. A franchise caliber player. Just what they have been looking for.

Jim Nox: Robbie Ingram - G
This kid is not afraid to work hard. Respected for his good behavior on the field. This is a guy who is already a pretty good blocker in the run game. Protects the QB well on pass plays. You can never have enough good pass blockers. Pretty fast learner. He will get a great chance to earn the starting job. He fits what they are looking for. He is a solid player. Cannot go wrong here.

Pick 10: Rome Gladiators
Larry Moore: Elden Ivory - SS
Due to his work ethic, this kid is very coachable. Coaches are not worried about his forty time. But he plays fast, and they will be smart with his coverage assignments. It is not often that the talent available fits perfectly with what you need. When it does, it makes for a win-win situation. This young man is going to be put in a position to succeed.

Jim Nox: Arnold Mcneil - SS
Every team would benefit from his leadership. Teammates love him. All he cares about is the team. He helps everyone succeed. This is the kind of kid you want to promote the game. Well behaved, loves the game, and respectful. Wraps up well when tackling. This guy is available. This guy fills a need. They have to take him. It makes so much sense.
